And at last I see the light! With these beautiful Tangled inspired lanterns made using free shapes in Cricut Design Space.

If you are a beginner I recommend reading my Design Space for beginners blog here, if you are wanting to understand further how to create your own designs, subscribe to my newsletter here and receive a free PDF guide on how plus free tutorials and tips and tricks!

You will need:

A Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker machine

Yellow Cardstock

LightGrip Mat

Double Sided Tape

How to make:

Step 1: Select a circle and 2 hearts from the shapes area on the left hand side bar. Place one heart half way over the other so that one half of each heart is covered. Select both heart layers and use the slice tool. Keep the tear drop shape.

Step 2: Place the tear drop shape above the circle as one of the suns rays. Duplicate the tear drop and use as the point of the second sun ray. Select another circle shape and unlock by selecting the lock icon that appears when clicking the layer. Reshape to an oval. Position below the teardrop so that the outer line smoothly joins together. Keep duplicating and positioning ovals to get a similar shape as the example shown. Select all the layers and use the weld tool to create the other sun ray. Duplicate as many of both the sun rays as needed and position around the circle to make the sun. Select all and use the weld tool.

Step 3: To make a four-point star, select a circle shape. Duplicate this and position to overlap one-quarter of the circle. Duplicate this another three times so that each quarter of the circle is being overlapped. In the middle there should be a four-point star shape that can be seen on the original middle circle. Select this circle and each overlapped circle, one at a time, and use the slice tool. From this process, you should slice the four-point star into the middle circle. Remove everything except this shape.

Step 4: Select a heart shape and rotate to on it's side. Select a circle and reshape over the bow of the heart and so the outer lines of both shapes smoothly join together. Select both shapes and use the weld tool.

Step 5: Duplicate the shape and flip. Position so that the overlap slightly in the center. Then select both shapes and use the weld tool. Duplicate this shape and position so that a thin line can be seen between the two shapes like the example shown. Select both layers and use the slice tool. Keep the thin strip. This is the top of the lantern detail.

Step 6: Add the four point star to the top of the lantern decor and duplicate it like the example shown. Add two ovals, overlapping underneath and a small circle underneath that as the final detail (shown in the example). Ensure everything is the same colour so it cuts on the same material. Layout your lantern duplicating the top and bottom pattern to fit your material size. Then select all and use the attach tool so the software knows to keep the design exactly like this on the material it is cutting. Cut this out on your material then use double-sided tape to join the lantern together.

It is so easy to create these Disney inspired lanterns that would look great in a kids room or party!
